David Arrington, Commander
Hello everyone. I hope this finds all of you well and safe!
We are living in a new normal and I am afraid it is going to be sometime before that changes. With that said we will be opening slowly and very cautiously. I think most of you know the county has placed restrictions on bars, restaurants, and basically everyone that requires masks to be worn in public spaces when social distancing cannot be maintained. So, until Covid numbers allow a loosening of this restriction, we must implement procedures that will allow us to start opening our doors. We will open on July 4th; our hours will be 11am – 4pm from Saturday thru Thursday. The post will be closed on Fridays to prepare for drive thru dinners. All meetings are cancelled until further notice.
We have removed half of the bar stools to allow six feet between members. Tables have been spaced six feet apart to allow for social distancing of groups of no more than four individuals. So here are the rules for our facility until further notice:
You must wear a mask to enter the building and it must remain on until seated. The post will provide masks for staff only so you must bring your own.
You must put your mask back on anytime to get up from your seat. This includes going to the bar to order food or drink, gaming, jukebox, going to the bathroom and leaving the facility.
Bar stools and tables cannot be moved for any reason. Only four people at a table allowed.
No standing at the bar between stools and all orders must be placed between the brass bars.
These rules will be strictly enforced, or the post could potentially lose its license to operate.
Absolutely no exceptions.
We will continue our Friday night “Drive Thru” dinners. These have been extremely successful, and I want to thank everyone that has supported us. The response has been so great that we have been having to add dinner volume to make sure everyone gets a meal. This has been a learning curve so
please accept our apologies for those that did not get a meal on our June Fridays. This is new for us and we are doing our best, I assure you.
The bar menu will be available for in-house or carry out with our wing special every Sunday. The only exception is on July 4th, the kitchen will be closed but we will have sloppy joes, mac & cheese, and chips available and it will be by donation. All self-serve drinks such as coffee and water will not be available.
The popcorn machine is closed until further notice. Any special daily meals will be served cafeteria style at the kitchen counter by a staff member.
When we can open for in-house Friday night dinning, it will come with some very big changes. Buffet style dinning will be gone, there will be no salad bar, and all you can eat meals will be curtailed. Coleslaw will be the only salad available. It will be served cafeteria style by staff. Lemonade and iced tea will no longer be complementary but must be purchased at the bar. Chicken will be a half chicken, breast, thigh, leg, and a wing. Fish will consist of 4 fillets. This will be at a reduced cost from past dinners, unless prices for supplies continue to rise. Of course, the side dishes will remain the same except for salads. Although it may be sometime before life returns to full normal, we will loosen these rules and dining procedures as soon as we are allowed by our government officials.
We are not putting a calendar together since we do not know what is going to happen from week to week. As we have seen in other states, we could be forced to close once again. The best way to get up to minute information about the post and our meals is to go our website or our Facebook page. We will also advertise upcoming meals on our sign, newspaper and on the radio, Thunder Country 105.5 FM. It is the only way to keep with our
changing environment amid this pandemic.
I hope to see many of you here. Please stay safe, wear your mask and practice social distancing, it does save lives.
Steve Foster, Commander

I hope all is well and everyone is practicing social distancing and wearing a mask in public.
The National and Department Auxiliary dictated that all units retain current officers for the upcoming year. All meetings have been closed until further notice.

Wow what a year so far, summer is here and the post is just now reopening slowly. I am hoping that soon this covid pandemic will finally be behind us all.
It is with great sadness that back in March we lost our beloved Assistant Director Axle Oakley. Axle lost his long hard-fought battle with cancer. His memorial service is July 19th at the legion at 5:00. Axle’s final ride will be before the service starting at 2:00 back at legion no later than 4:15.
July 31st we will have a rib dinner as of right now it is a drive through dinner only.
We are also still planning on having our 13 annual Scavenger hunt August 8th. Thank you.
