David Arrington, Commander

There are alot of new things happening at the Legion that will affect the post and you. First, we have gone to ONE meeting per month with the exception of April and May in which we will hold two meetings, in order to meet election requirements. Regular meetings will be the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm (except for November and December when the monthly meeting will be the 2nd Tuesday of the month due to the holidays). If you're confused, check the monthly schedule.

National has raised their dues another $5, and the Department has raised their dues another $3. We had no choice but to follow suit, so beginning January 1, 2016, post dues will rise from $30 to $40. Keep in mind that of that $40, only $5 comes back to the Legion - National and the Department get the other $35.

We are starting a guest speaker program at our meetings beginning in January. The first speaker will be a representative from the Veteran's Funeral Benefits program. Check the newsletter or stop by the post and check the bulletin board for future meeting speakers. Also, if any of you have ideas on topics or specific speakers, please let me know and I'll do my best to get them on the meeting schedule.

Our post is doing very well thanks to a great team! The bar menu changes have increased patronage; the banquet room is being scheduled at an ever-increasing rate; and plans are in the works for many special events. If course, we need to get the word ou to the media so you and the publilc can be informed. We will continue our newspaper advertising, but beginning December 1st we will be advertising on the radio - specifically Thunder Country 105.5FM. We have entered into a one-year contract at a minimum of 50 commericals per month. We will add commericals and increase that monthly number as events warrant. The initial barrage will be centered on what the Legion offers to members and the community and dispel many myths about who can and cannot use our facililty.

We are in the process of completely revamping our website and it should be complete within the next month. You will have the opportunity to get timely changes to the schedule or unannounced special events in conjunction with newspaper and radio advertising. Since we are changing domains, I'll hold off on giving you the current website address - it will likely change. Also, don't forget to visit the Facebook page (American Legion Post 215) where you can get daily information about our post.

Finally, make sure you check the schedule closely for December and January due to changes because of the holidays. In short, the post is closed on Christmas; no breakfast on December 27th; and no chicken buffet on January 1st. In addition, the post wll close at 5:0 pm on December 24th & 31st, and at 5:00 pm on New Year's Day.

We are entering the winter season so please stay safe and I hope to see you at the post. As always, keep our uniformed millitary in your thoughts. They are the best of us all!

I hope you are all ready for the colder weather. As we approach the end of the year, please get your membership paid. You can stop in and pay at the post or give it to any SAL officer. Also, if you know anyone who is eligible to join, please urge them to at least stop in and see what we're all about.

Our dinner will be a little different in December. On Decembr 11, there will e a dinner, but it will be a benefit. The dinner is benefitting the middle school trip to Washington, D.C. We will be serving steak or shrimp and the dinners are being presold by the kids/families going on the trip.

We will be back to our regular SAL dinner on January 8th.

As the weather and roads get worse, please be safe! I wish you well on your holiday travels. Have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

As always, if anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time. Thank you for all your help and support in serving those who have served for us.
